History
The Kenosha
Junior Woman’s Club (KJWC) is a non-profit organization which was
formed in 1929 when the daughters of Kenosha Woman’s Club members
decided that they, too, wanted a club to enrich the lives of the
community. The Woman’s Club helped these young women start a club
they initially named “Our Daughters”. After a few years, the name
was changed to the KJWC. Over the years, the KJWC has contributed
vastly to the community. In 1973, our club initiated Mobile
Meals, recruiting and training volunteer drivers – ‘Meals on Wheels’
is now run by the Kenosha Area Family & Aging Services. In 1975,
KJWC started Citizenship awards for children at the elementary
school level and Scholarship Awards for local graduating high school
seniors. These and many other community projects continue to thrive
and improve the quality of life for many.
Until 1992, KJWC put
on productions named “Follies”, rivaling many a Broadway show, and
entertained thousands while raising much needed monies for local
charities. It was a great deal of work, but the benefits far
exceeded the exhausting performances – complete with “kick lines”!
In 1993, KJWC replaced the “Follies” with the “Taste of Elegance”
food and wine fair, which, along with other fundraisers, continues
our tradition of supporting local charities and scholarships.
In 2008, KJWC
replaced the “Taste of Elegance” with “KJWC Presents….” - a unique
culinary and entertainment experience based on a theme.
There is so much more
to tell you about our rich history of community service. We invite
you to join us as we continue to make a difference...and have a
whole lot of fun along the way!
We are members of the
